Visiting Bako National Park requires a single park entry fee plus separate transport and accommodation costs. This article lists every cost a 2026 visitor should expect, the booking system, and how to avoid the surprises that catch first-time visitors out.

Park entry fees

  • Adult non-Malaysian: MYR 20.00
  • Adult Malaysian: MYR 10.00
  • Child (under 18): MYR 7.00 (non-Malaysian) / MYR 3.00 (Malaysian)
  • Camera fee: No additional fee for personal cameras; professional film/commercial photography requires advance permit

Pay at the Bako park headquarters on arrival or at the Sarawak Forestry Corporation office in Kuching the day before. The fee covers a single visit; if you stay overnight, it covers the duration of your accommodation booking.

Boat transfer cost

The only access route is by boat from Kampung Bako jetty. Shared boats run MYR 30–35 per person each way. A private boat charter is MYR 110–140 each way. The full transport details are covered in our boat transfer guide.

Accommodation rates inside the park

Park lodging is operated by the Sarawak Forestry Corporation. Approximate 2026 rates:

  • Forest lodge (2-room): MYR 200/night
  • Hostel dormitory bed: MYR 15.75/night
  • Camping (own tent): MYR 5/person/night

Book accommodation in advance via the Sarawak Forestry Corporation online portal (ebooking.com.my/sarawakforestry) — rooms fill weeks in advance during weekends, school holidays, and the dry season (June–September). For full accommodation details see overnight stays at Bako.

Permits for special activities

Standard day visits and overnight stays require no additional permits beyond the entry fee. Activities that DO need separate permits:

  • Research and academic work: Apply through Sarawak Forestry Corporation 4–6 weeks in advance
  • Commercial filming and photography: Apply at least 2 weeks in advance
  • Drone use: Generally not permitted within the park boundary
  • Camping at unmarked sites: Requires a ranger permit
