Well-located hotel overlooking the Sarawak River waterfront. Walking distance to Old Town and convenient for arranging Bako day trips.

The Waterfront Hotel sits on the southern bank of the Sarawak River in central Kuching, directly opposite the Astana (the old colonial governor's residence) and a short walk from the city's main attractions. Its location is the property's defining asset — Kuching Waterfront promenade is at the doorstep, the Main Bazaar and the Sarawak Museum are within 10 minutes' walk, and the river itself provides a constant, picturesque backdrop with sampan crossings and the floating mosque visible from the riverside rooms.

The hotel is a four-star property with rooms across multiple floor levels, all with air conditioning, modern bathrooms, and Wi-Fi. The premium rooms face the river and the Astana — book these specifically if river views matter to you, as the city-side rooms have far less interesting outlooks. The hotel has a small pool on an upper floor, a gym, and a restaurant serving breakfast (included with most rates) and dinner.

For Bako National Park visits, the Waterfront is well-positioned for the standard transit. The most economical option is the red-line bus from the city centre to Kampung Bako jetty, which departs from the bus terminal a 10-minute walk away (or a 5-minute Grab ride). The journey takes approximately 1 hour, and the ferry to Bako is another 20–40 minutes. Plan to leave the hotel by 06:30–07:00 to catch the morning ferries and have a full day at the park.

Kuching itself is worth several days of exploration, and the Waterfront makes a comfortable base for that. The Main Bazaar is the city's most established street for souvenirs, traditional crafts, and Sarawak-specific products like the famous black pepper. The Cat Museum (Kuching means "cat" in Malay) is a 15-minute drive. The Sarawak Cultural Village and Mount Santubong are 35 minutes by road — accessible as day trips from the hotel.

Food and drink are abundant in central Kuching. The hotel restaurant is solid but unremarkable; for genuine local food, walk five minutes to the Carpenter Street area for laksa Sarawak, kolo mee, and the various coffee shop classics. The river-bank night market sets up around 18:00 and offers a broader selection of Malay, Chinese, and Iban dishes than most travellers expect. The Waterfront is also among the better-priced four-star options in central Kuching, particularly when booked directly during off-peak periods.
